In search of materials that could express my ideas about colours and contrast, I discovered not only glass fusion but also the potential of computers. Working with layers and transparency using picture processing software, continues to give me new insights into facets of pictorial synthesis and the underlying thoughts on form, contrast and colour. This method of working interests me because it forces me to analyse what I create. Because infinite adjustments are possible, there's plenty of opportunity for experimentation and you're more liable to take radical decisions. As opposed to painting and drawing, the computer allows you to isolate individual picture layers to manipulate them. You can make these layers move in relation to one another and alter the tuning of colours and contrasts. |
