I am interested in the moment of metamorphosis: to create a line and follow the process. Letting the line become a form and then something else.Écriture automatique When I paint or draw, it's a matter of incorporating my feelings and associations at that moment. The ensuing voluntary gestures and choice of colour, dictate the image. I further work out the resultant drawings by creating and enhancing different layers. I emphasize dynamism and depth through colour and contrasts and pay special attention to the composition. I draw whatever presents itself to me and have no goal other than to communicate the feeling or desire of the moment.* Different layers My work consists of glass panels, paintings and drawings full of form and colour. Although abstract, they sometimes contain recognizable figurative elements that can act as a narrative. Different pictorial layers can be distinguished. These layers overlap creating a sensation of depth. I draw layers that refer to the teeming quality of nature in all its configurations, layers with physical forms that refer to bodily sensations and layers generated by momentary experiences, the here and now. My work is largely dictated by a search for methods to capture in colour, the light quality that I know from the Antilles where I grew up and to express myself through my style and handwriting. Serendipity Some of the best prizes in life are surprises – the ones you didn't go looking for. Serendipity is the gift of finding valuable gifts – not sought for. It's a personal magnetism for pleasant surprises. You might have gone looking for one result but found one even more valuable. The word comes from the Persian fairy tale The Three Princes of Serendip, the heroes of which kept making happy, useful, and unexpected discoveries. |
